We recently heard a rumor that Google is looking to work with processor manufacturers to develop their own processor, the reason for this is to have a standard for processors which could help Google end fragmentation.
Google has its own smartphones at the moment in the form of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, plus other older Nexus devices, although these are made by other manufacturers for Google.
According to a recent report, Google is considering build its own smartphone from scratch, in a further attempt to help reduce Android fragmentation.
Google’s current nexus devices get their Android updates very quickly when compared to other smartphones, so we cant see how Google making its own hardware would help reduce fragmentation as the other smartphones makers would still be behind with updates.
There is one way that Google could use its own hardware to help reduce fragmentation, if it produced a reference device that other smartphone makers could use to make their devices, although there are no details on whether this is what Google has planned.
Whether Google will be able to reduce fragmentation with their own Android smartphone remains to be seen, as soon as we gets some more details on exactly what Google has planned, we will let you guys know.
