GIGABYTE has this week unveiled its new range of mini desktop PCs, in the form of the latest Brix range which comes equipped with seventh generation Intel Core “Kaby Lake” processors.
Processor Options and Performance
The latest range of mini desktop PCs offers a selection of processors to choose from, including Intel Core i3-7100U, Core i5-7200U, or Core i7-7500U. These processors are part of Intel’s Kaby Lake lineup, which is known for its improved performance and efficiency over previous generations. The Kaby Lake processors bring enhanced media capabilities, including support for 4K UHD content, making these mini PCs suitable for a variety of uses, from home entertainment systems to office workstations.
Design and Expandability
The system is available in two different sizes, catering to different needs and preferences. The smaller model measures roughly 4.7 x 4.4 x 1.4 inches and has been designed to accommodate an M.2 SSD. This compact size makes it ideal for users who need a powerful yet unobtrusive computing solution. However, due to its limited space, it cannot accommodate additional storage devices.
The larger model, on the other hand, measures 4.7 x 4.4 x 1.8 inches. This slight increase in size allows it to accommodate both a 2.5-inch drive and an M.2 solid-state drive (SSD). This flexibility makes the larger model a more versatile option for users who require more storage capacity or who want to take advantage of the speed benefits of an SSD while still having additional storage space.
Connectivity and Ports
Other features and connectivity options include a variety of ports to ensure compatibility with a wide range of peripherals and devices. The mini PCs come equipped with:
– 1 x USB 3.1 Type-C port
– 1 x USB 3.1 Type-A port
– 2 x USB 3.0 ports
– HDMI 2.0
– DisplayPort
– Gigabit Ethernet
– Audio jack
The inclusion of a USB 3.1 Type-C port is particularly noteworthy, as it allows for faster data transfer speeds and more versatile connectivity options. The HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort outputs ensure that users can connect to high-resolution displays, making these mini PCs suitable for tasks that require high-quality visuals, such as video editing or gaming.
Potential Applications and Use Cases
The GIGABYTE Brix mini PCs are versatile enough to be used in a variety of settings. For instance, their compact size and powerful performance make them ideal for use as home theater PCs (HTPCs). With support for 4K UHD content and multiple connectivity options, they can easily be integrated into a home entertainment system to stream movies, play games, or browse the internet.
In a business setting, the Brix mini PCs can serve as efficient workstations. Their small footprint allows them to fit into tight office spaces, and their robust performance ensures that they can handle everyday office tasks with ease. The multiple USB ports and Ethernet connectivity also make them suitable for use in networked environments.
Unfortunately, no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet by GIGABYTE. However, as soon as information comes to light, we will keep you updated as always.
