Gatebox has now started taking preorders for its very unique personal assistant which goes down a different route to that taken by Google, Amazon, and Apple. The Gatebox AI personal assistant takes the form of a CGI anime character which is housed in a cylindrical container that can be placed on any desktop or flat surface.
Watch the demonstration videos below to learn more about this unique “living” personal assistant character which is now available to preorder priced at $2,745. Although the company says that its current conversation skills and interactivity are still a little limited.
Innovative Design and Features
The first production run will be for 300 Gateboxes with shipping expected to take place during December 2017. The CGI character with Gatebox is made up of a two-dimensional rear projected image, and in the future, other videos and characters will be made available if you connect a PC to its HDMI port. This innovative design allows users to interact with a virtual character in a more personal and engaging way compared to traditional voice assistants.
Gatebox’s AI character, named Azuma Hikari, is designed to be more than just a functional assistant. She is portrayed as a companion who can greet you when you come home, remind you of your schedule, and even control smart home devices. This adds a layer of emotional interaction that is not present in other AI assistants like Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri.
Future Prospects and Applications
The potential applications for Gatebox extend beyond just personal use. In the future, businesses could use similar technology for customer service, providing a more interactive and engaging experience for clients. Imagine walking into a store and being greeted by a friendly virtual assistant who can help you find what you’re looking for or answer questions about products.
Moreover, the ability to project different characters opens up possibilities for customization. Users could potentially choose from a variety of characters, each with unique personalities and skills, to suit their preferences. This could make the Gatebox a versatile tool for various settings, from homes to offices to retail environments.
Gatebox’s approach to AI personal assistants is a fascinating blend of technology and human interaction. While it may not yet have the advanced conversational abilities of other AI systems, its unique design and emotional engagement offer a glimpse into the future of personal assistants. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative and personalized AI solutions.
