Foxconn has this week unveiled a new range of fanless mini PC systems in the form of the Intel equipped AT-5300, and AMD equipped AT-5600. The new range has been designed to be 40 times smaller than an average PC tower system, and each is passively cooled to keep noise to a minimum.
The AT-5300 is equipped with an Intel Dual Core Atom D2700 running at 2.13GHz, and the AT-5600 is powered by an AMD Dual Core E450 1.65GHz APU. These processors are known for their energy efficiency and decent performance for everyday computing tasks, making these mini PCs suitable for a variety of uses, from home entertainment systems to office workstations.
Comprehensive Connectivity and Expandability
Each system is also fitted with 1 x SO-DIMM socket (DDR3 memory up to 4GB), which allows users to upgrade their RAM for better multitasking capabilities. The inclusion of 4 x USB 2.0 ports and 2 x USB 3.0 ports ensures that users have ample options for connecting peripherals such as keyboards, mice, external storage devices, and more. The USB 3.0 ports, in particular, offer faster data transfer speeds, which is beneficial for tasks that involve large files.
Additionally, the systems come with a 1 x SD/SDHC/MS/MS Pro/MMC card reader, making it easy to transfer photos and videos from various types of memory cards. The 1 x Gigabit LAN port provides reliable wired internet connectivity, which is essential for stable and fast network performance.
Other ports include 1 x HDMI and 1 x VGA, allowing users to connect the mini PCs to a variety of display devices, from modern monitors and TVs to older VGA-compatible screens. This versatility makes the Foxconn mini PCs suitable for different environments, whether it’s a home office, a living room, or a conference room. The inclusion of 802.11n Wi-Fi ensures that users can also connect to wireless networks, providing flexibility in terms of placement and reducing the need for additional cables.
Compact Design and Versatile Mounting Options
The mini PC systems measure just 19 x 13.5 x 3.8 cm in size, making them incredibly compact and easy to fit into tight spaces. This small footprint is ideal for users who have limited desk space or who want to keep their work area clutter-free. Despite their small size, these mini PCs do not compromise on performance or connectivity options.
One of the standout features of these systems is their VESA mountability. This means that users can easily mount the mini PCs on the back of a monitor or on a wall, further saving space and creating a clean, organized setup. This feature is particularly useful in office environments where desk space is at a premium, or in home entertainment setups where a sleek, minimalist look is desired.
The fanless design of these mini PCs is another significant advantage. By eliminating the need for a fan, Foxconn has created systems that operate silently, making them perfect for noise-sensitive environments such as bedrooms, libraries, or recording studios. The passive cooling system is also less prone to dust accumulation, which can improve the longevity and reliability of the device.
The Foxconn fanless mini PCs are soon to be available worldwide for less than $200, making them an affordable option for users looking for a compact, quiet, and versatile computing solution. Whether you need a secondary PC for light tasks, a media center for streaming and entertainment, or a reliable workstation for everyday use, the AT-5300 and AT-5600 offer a compelling combination of features and performance.
