The mid-size truck market has heated up in the last few years with Ford bringing the Ranger back to the US after a hiatus. Ford is now bragging that the new Ranger truck will have best in class maximum payload of 1,860 pounds. While most of the mid-size trucks on the market come with V6 engines, Ford is using its 2.3L EcoBoost four.
That four-cylinder engine gives the Ranger best in class 310 lb-ft of torque for climbing and towing. That means a best in class towing capability of 7,500 pounds with the available tow package with integrated trailer brake. That standard 2.3L EcoBoost engine makes 270hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that should give it impressive fuel economy. No economy numbers have been offered at this time.
