It’s been rumoured that Facebook maybe looking to purchase the facial recognition service, provided by Face.com. With prices being circulated that Facebook is looking to pay around $80-$100 million for the acquisition of Face.com and its facial recognition technology.
The rumours follow shortly after Facebook completed its IPO, and a few weeks before that purchased the photo sharing application Instagram for a cool billion dollars.
Face.com has developed a Facebook app called FAce Tagger that allows users to scan pictures for faces, together with a facial recognition app for iOS called KLIK. However CEO of Face.com, Gil Hirsch, has said that there’s “no news to announce” regarding any such acquisition. Which leaves the rumour still up in the air, but as soon as any information becomes available we will keep you informed as always.
