Epic Games as this week announced the acquisition of Houseparty the social networking service that enables group video chatting through mobile and desktop applications. Houseparty is available on iOS, Android and Mac OS and offers a communication solution for teens who are ready for social media but are not old enough, each session can host up to eight participants with unlimited sessions. The company raised $52 million in venture capital funding from Sequoia Capital in late 2016 and in 2019, the company partnered with Ellen DeGeneres’s app, “Heads Up!”.
“Joining Epic is a great step forward in achieving our mission of bringing empathy to online communication,” said Sima Sistani, Co-founder and CEO of Houseparty. “We have a common vision to make human interaction easier and more enjoyable, and always with respect for user privacy.”
“By teaming up with Epic, creator of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, we’ll be able to help even more people connect with their friends, family, and peers.”
