Yesterday we heard that Samsung had won a lawsuit in the Netherlands regarding one patent relating to 3G on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, and now the Dutch court has ordered Apple to pay damages to Samsung.
No details have been revealed as yet on how much Apple will have to pay Samsung on Damages, but the court has said that the damages will be based on Apple’s sales of the iPhone and iPad in the Netherlands.
Samsung had originally claimed that Apple’s iPhone and iPad had infringed on four of their patents relating to 3G, the court denied three of the patent claims, and ruled in Samsung’s favor on one of the patents claims.
We doubt that the damages that have been awarded against Apple will be much of a problem for them considering their huge cash reserves, both companies are engaged in a number of lawsuits around the globe against each other, and Samsung may be able to use this ruling as some sort of bargaining tool in future cases.
