Gamers and graphics designers or anyone else wanting high resolution and accurate colors in a LCD needs to pay attention. Dell is now shipping its latest 30-inch LCD that boasts 1.07 billion colors and IPS panel tech. The screen is called the U3011.
The big 30-inch screen has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and is rated for brightness of 370 CD/m2. The typical contrast ratio is 1000:1, but the screen is good for a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1. The pixel pitch of the screen is 0.2505mm and the refresh rate is 7ms. That refresh rate is good enough that ghosting with video or gaming should not be an issue.
The display has a lot of connectivity options with a pair of HDMI ports, a pair of DVI-D ports, a single DisplayPort, and a VGA input. The screen also has a four-port USB hub and a memory card reader. The stand is height, tilt, and swivel adjustable. Dell is asking right at $1500 for the U3011, which is really the only downside I see to the new display.
