Last month Chromium OS Hacker Hexxeh unveiled the first screenshots of a port for the open source version of Google’s Chrome operating system Chromium, over to the Raspberry Pi mini Computer.
The Chromium OS port is still some way from being ready to release, but this week Hexeh has release a beta version of the Chromium browser that will only work on Raspbian images.
The latest Chromium browser beta version requires plenty of the Raspberry Pi’s resources to run efficiently, so a few tweaks are recommended by Hexxeh to speed things up a little. Hexxeh explains:
“Whilst it’s not required, using the 224MB memory split, overclocking your Pi and using a fast USB stick or SD card for your root filesystem will improve your browsing experience. I’ve had the RaspberryPi.org blog frontpage load in as little as 5 seconds by combining all three of these”
