A very unique Chrome experiment has been launched this week, created by French computer science student Owen Cornec. Who has redesigned the user interface of Wikipedia in the form of a virtual galaxy that has been named the WikiGalaxy.
The WikiGalaxy takes the form of a special Wikipedia browser that has been created to visually display the content of the huge website as a 3D galaxy, that can be explored by users. Watch the video after the jump to learn more and see this interesting project in action.
Even though the WikiGalaxy is a Chrome WebGL experiment Users are not required to have a Google specific browser such as Chrome to view it, and the experiment can be viewed in others such as Firefox. If you would like to explore the WikiGalaxy hands-on, jump over to the official website via the link below, to try it out and leave your comments of your experience below.
“An interactive visualization of Wikipedia articles as a galaxy of stars. Relevant articles are grouped together into clusters of stars, creating a constellation of human knowledge.
Explore with the galaxy map or fly through the stars in first person view. Search and read articles in fullscreen, or scan through their links. Compile your search history and marvel at the constellation you left in your wake.”
