We have featured the BMW i3 on the site previously, and now it looks like we finally have some pricing information on this new electric-powered BMW.
The BMW i3 will retail for $41,350 when it launches in the US, and it is expected to launch in the second half of 2014.
“The BMW i3 heralds the dawn of a new era for individual mobility and for the BMW Group. True to a genuine BMW, the BMW i3 has strong emotional appeal, outstanding product substance and a guarantee of sheer driving pleasure,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing BMW. “With this leading-edge vehicle and attractive price, we will provide customers with a compelling offer for electromobility.”
Performance and Specifications
The BMW i3 will have around 170 horsepower and will have a top speed of 93MPH, so we suspect this one will be designed to be used around town, whilst the i8 will be more of a sports car with a 0-60MPH time of under 5 seconds. The i3’s electric motor is powered by a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides an estimated range of 80-100 miles on a single charge. This makes it ideal for daily commutes and short trips, reducing the need for frequent charging.
Additionally, the BMW i3 features a lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) body, which not only enhances its performance but also improves its energy efficiency. The use of CFRP helps to offset the weight of the battery, ensuring that the vehicle remains agile and responsive.
Innovative Features and Design
The BMW i3 is not just about performance; it also boasts a range of innovative features and a unique design. The interior of the i3 is designed with sustainability in mind, using renewable and recycled materials. For example, the dashboard is made from eucalyptus wood, and the seats are upholstered with a combination of wool and leather tanned with olive leaf extract.
The i3 also comes equipped with BMW’s ConnectedDrive system, which includes a range of digital services and apps to enhance the driving experience. This system provides real-time traffic information, remote services, and access to a variety of entertainment options. The i3 also features a navigation system that is specifically designed for electric vehicles, helping drivers to find the most efficient routes and locate nearby charging stations.
One of the standout features of the BMW i3 is its ability to be charged using a standard household outlet, a Level 2 charging station, or a DC fast charger. With a DC fast charger, the i3 can be charged up to 80% in just 30 minutes, making it convenient for those who need a quick recharge on the go.
The BMW i3 also includes advanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control, collision warning with city braking, and a rearview camera. These features help to ensure a safe and comfortable driving experience, whether you’re navigating city streets or cruising on the highway.
The BMW i3 represents a significant step forward in the world of electric vehicles. With its combination of performance, innovative features, and sustainable design, it offers a compelling option for those looking to make the switch to electric mobility. The attractive price point of $41,350 makes it accessible to a wider range of consumers, further promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.
