BlackBerry’s Android-powered Priv is available from AT&T in the US and is expected to hit retail in the UK in the coming days. The handset comes with top-of-the-line specifications on board, but it ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
As you know, Google has released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, and you must be wondering when it will arrive on the BlackBerry Priv. According to BlackBerry, they are trying to roll out the update sometime next year.
It may sound like a vague statement, but it seems the company’s latest device isn’t just here to be just another Android device, the company is aiming to make sure it gets timely updates across the globe.
While talking to the folks at Android Central, Ron Louks, BlackBerry’s President of Devices and in a briefing in London with Gareth Hurn, Global Director of Device Portfolio Planning, hinted at the update sometime next year.
In Europe, the company is aiming to release timely updates, within 30 days after Google releases them. It’s sounds like a good idea, but it remains to be seen how regular the updates will be for BlackBerry Priv.
Lets hope BlackBerry doesn’t take too much time, and release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update sooner than that. We’ll update you if we hear anything more about the availability of Android Marshmallow for BlackBerry Priv.
