BlackBerry has announced that they will be releasing a new version of BBM for Android and iPhone. The update will land today and it will bring a host of new features to these devices.
Some of the new features included in BBM 2.0 for the iPhone and Android will include BBM Voice and BBM Channels, plus a range of other new features.
Earlier, we wrote about some of the features we’re working on for BBM in 2014. Today, we’re excited to be adding those great new features and more to BBM that users on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry** can enjoy. When the update becomes available later today, these new features will give you more ways to chat and share than ever before on BBM.
New Features in BBM 2.0
BBM Voice is one of the standout features in this update. It allows users to make free voice calls to their BBM contacts over Wi-Fi or a data connection. This feature is particularly useful for those who want to stay connected without incurring additional call charges. BBM Channels, another significant addition, offers a social networking aspect to BBM. Users can create and join channels based on their interests, enabling them to interact with a broader community.
Some of the other new features in BBM for Android and iOS will include location sharing, new emoticons, and Dropbox integration. Location sharing is a handy feature that allows users to share their real-time location with their contacts for a specified period. This can be particularly useful for coordinating meetups or ensuring safety during travel.
The new emoticons will add a fun element to conversations, allowing users to express themselves more vividly. With the integration of Dropbox, users can now share files directly from their Dropbox account within BBM, making it easier to share documents, photos, and other files seamlessly.
Enhanced User Experience
The update also focuses on enhancing the overall user experience. The interface has been refined to make navigation more intuitive and user-friendly. The chat experience has been improved with the addition of new customization options, allowing users to personalize their chat backgrounds and notification sounds.
Moreover, BBM 2.0 introduces support for larger group chats, accommodating up to 50 participants. This is a significant upgrade from the previous limit and is ideal for coordinating with larger teams or groups of friends. The update also includes improved privacy settings, giving users more control over who can contact them and view their information.
Another noteworthy feature is the addition of timed messages and message retraction. Timed messages allow users to send messages that disappear after a set period, adding an extra layer of privacy. Message retraction enables users to delete a message from both their own and the recipient’s chat, which can be particularly useful for correcting mistakes or removing unintended messages.
