If you have been looking forward to using a Hoverboard similar to the one used by Michael J Fox in Back to The Future, you might be interested to know that from next year the Hendo Hoverboard will be available to purchase for $10,000.
The only problem with the Hendo Hoverboard is that you need to use it on a conductive copper lined skate park for the magnetic field to work correctly, check out the video after the jump to see it in action.
Currently the batteries on the Hoverboard only last 7 minutes but its creators Arx Pax, the Los Gatos, California startup explain that this will improve as the Hoverboard is developed further. A Hendo Hoverboard developer kit is currently available and the Hendo board can support up to 300 lbs, with support for 500 lbs planned for the future. Arx Pax’s founders, husband and wife team Greg and Jill Henderson explain :
“It’s the advantage of showing up without everyone else’s preconceived scientific notions,”-“We don’t have the proofs written out. A lot of scientists find that offensive. When we get this technology out into the hands of everyone else, that’s something I hope we can catch up on.”
For more information on the new Hendo Hoverboard jump over to the Kickstarter website for details and to make a pledge to help the team raise the $250,000 they require to push the project forward.
“So where does the HENDO hoverboard stand today? Well, about 1 inch off the ground. As you can see from the video above, the prototype is real and it works! But to see it hover in person, and better yet, to defy gravity by riding it, is something you need to experience as well.
With the support of the Kickstarter community, we all can. We need your help to put the finishing touches on the Hendo Hoverboard, to help us produce them, and to create places to ride them. “
