Scott has created probably the coolest Star Wars costume we have ever seen on Geeky Gadgets, the Star Wars Tauntaun Costume.
The Star Wars Tauntaun Costume was designed in Solidworks, and then Scott used a variety of materials, which include wood, expanded metal, plaster of Paris, and foam. Check out the video of it in action below.
Design and Materials
The design process for the Star Wars Tauntaun Costume was meticulous and detailed. Using Solidworks, a powerful 3D CAD design software, Scott was able to create a highly accurate and realistic model of the Tauntaun. This software allowed him to visualize the costume in three dimensions and make precise adjustments before beginning the physical build.
Once the design was finalized, Scott selected a range of materials to bring his creation to life. Wood was used for the structural framework, providing a sturdy base for the costume. Expanded metal was incorporated to add strength and durability, ensuring that the costume could withstand wear and tear. Plaster of Paris was used to create detailed textures and features, giving the Tauntaun a lifelike appearance. Finally, foam was utilized for padding and comfort, making the costume wearable for extended periods.
Construction and Detailing
The construction of the Star Wars Tauntaun Costume was a labor-intensive process that required a high level of craftsmanship. Scott began by building the wooden framework, carefully measuring and cutting each piece to ensure a perfect fit. The expanded metal was then shaped and attached to the framework, providing additional support and structure.
Next, Scott applied plaster of Paris to the metal framework, sculpting it to create the intricate details of the Tauntaun’s body. This step required a great deal of skill and patience, as the plaster needed to be applied in layers and allowed to dry between applications. Once the plaster was fully set, Scott sanded and smoothed the surface to achieve a realistic texture.
Foam padding was added to the interior of the costume to ensure comfort for the wearer. This padding not only made the costume more comfortable to wear but also helped to distribute the weight evenly, reducing strain on the wearer. The final step was to paint the costume, adding color and shading to enhance the lifelike appearance of the Tauntaun.
The end result is nothing short of amazing. The Star Wars Tauntaun Costume is not only visually stunning but also functional and wearable. Scott’s attention to detail and dedication to the project are evident in every aspect of the costume, from the realistic textures to the comfortable fit.
