If you are looking for one master Atari controller to rule them all, you might be interested in a creation from Instructables member ‘x2Jiggy’ who has built the Atari Combo Controller from scratch.
The Atari Combo Controller has been designed to plug straight into the original console and removes the need to use the joystick, paddle, or keypad controller separately. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Atari Combo Controller project and see it in action.
The Atari Combo Controller has been constructed in a wooden case and the buttons of the keypad are mounted on a chunk of protoboard. x2Jigg explains a little more:
“I enjoy bringing out the old atari 2600 for some classic Pacman or Missile Command but I can’t play my copy of Breakout without a paddle controller. To solve this horrible dilemma I thought would be fun to make one since Atari hardware can be a bit difficult and expensive to get your hands on in Australia. Considering the circuitry is so basic, why build just a paddle when I can integrate multiple controllers into an epic combo. This design combines the joystick, paddle and keypad controllers into a single compact unit. Take a look at this short video I made of the build process.”
