Arduino has today announced that the newly branded Genuino Mega 2560 Rev3 is now available to purchase from their online store priced at €35 and is now in its third generation.
To re-cap the Genuino Mega 2560 is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega2560 and is equipped with 54 digital input/output pins.
14 of these can be used as PWM outputs, as well as having 16 analog inputs, 4 UARTs or hardware serial ports. As well as a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button.
The Genuino Mega is compatible with most shields designed for the Uno, Duemilanove or Diecimila and new features you can expect to enjoy in the third version of the popular board include :
• ATmega16U2 instead 8U2 as USB-to-Serial converter
• 1.0 pinout: added SDA and SCL pins for TWI communication placed near to the AREF pin and two other new pins placed near to the RESET pin, the IOREF that allow the shields to adapt to the voltage provided from the board and the second one is a not connected pin, that is reserved for future purposes
• stronger RESET circuit
