Apple’s new iMac is now available in Apple’s online stores in both the US and the UK. Both the 21.5 inch iMac and the 27 inch iMac are available to order from today, and the 21.5 inch model ships within one to three business days.
The 27 inch iMac will be available in December, although you can order it from today and Apple is showing a shipping time on this model of two to three weeks.
The new 2012 iMac features a complete re-design over the previous models. It now features an ultra slim design, the latest Intel processors, up to 60 percent faster graphics, and Apple’s new hybrid Fusion drive.
Design and Build
One of the most striking features of the new iMac is its ultra-slim design. Apple has managed to reduce the thickness of the iMac to just 5mm at its thinnest edge, making it significantly sleeker and more modern compared to its predecessors. This design overhaul not only makes the iMac more aesthetically pleasing but also contributes to a more efficient use of space on your desk. The new design is achieved through advanced manufacturing techniques, including friction-stir welding, which is commonly used in the aerospace industry.
Performance and Specifications
Under the hood, the new iMac is powered by the latest Intel processors, offering a significant boost in performance. The 21.5 inch model comes with a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, while the 27 inch model can be configured with up to a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. This makes the new iMac capable of handling demanding tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, and gaming with ease.
In addition to the powerful processors, the new iMac also features up to 60 percent faster graphics. This is achieved through the inclusion of NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, which provide a substantial improvement in graphical performance. Whether you’re a professional designer or a casual gamer, the enhanced graphics capabilities of the new iMac will ensure a smooth and immersive experience.
Another notable feature of the new iMac is Apple’s innovative Fusion Drive. This hybrid drive combines the high capacity of a traditional hard drive with the high performance of a solid-state drive (SSD). The Fusion Drive intelligently manages your data, automatically moving frequently used files and applications to the faster SSD, while keeping less frequently accessed data on the larger hard drive. This results in faster boot times, quicker application launches, and overall improved system responsiveness.
The new iMac also comes with a range of connectivity options, including four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, and an SDXC card slot. This ensures that you have plenty of options for connecting external devices and peripherals, whether it’s for transferring data, connecting to an external display, or expanding your storage.
In terms of display quality, the new iMac features a stunning LED-backlit display with IPS technology, providing vibrant colors and wide viewing angles. The 21.5 inch model has a resolution of 1920×1080, while the 27 inch model boasts an impressive resolution of 2560×1440. This makes the new iMac ideal for tasks that require precise color accuracy and detail, such as photo editing and graphic design.
Overall, the new 2012 iMac represents a significant upgrade over its predecessors, offering a combination of sleek design, powerful performance, and innovative features. Whether you’re a professional looking for a high-performance workstation or a casual user in need of a reliable and stylish computer, the new iMac is sure to meet your needs.
