We recently heard a rumor that Apple was switching from Samsung to TSMC for production of the new A5 processor in the iPad 2, it turns out that Samsung are the actual manufacturers of the A5 processor.
We just got an email from Chipworks, who have taken the A5 processor apart, and they have confirmed that the models they have tested were actually manufactured by Samsung.
What no one knows yet, but Chipworks does…confirmation that the Apple A5 processor is fabricated by Samsung (in the models Chipworks has on hand) and not TSMC as widely speculated.
They have also confirmed that the A5 processor comes with 512MB of RAM, as opposed to 256MB in the a4 processor, and the touchscreen control uses the same three chips that are found in the first generation iPad.
Apple has now revealed the iPad 3 which is sold along with the iPad 2, have a look at our iPad 3 vs iPad 2 guide for the differences between the two tablets.
