We heard recently that Apple’s iOS 12 may be on around 75 percent of devices, Apple has now released its official figures and the OS is on 70 percent of Apple devices.
The previous figures we heard were from Mixpanel and were pretty close to what the actual adoption rate is.
70 percent of Apple devices are now using iOS 12 and 72 percent of devices sold within the last few years are running the new software. The last official figures released were back in October when the OS was on 60 percent of devices.
Reasons for Rapid Adoption
Apple’s iOS 12 has been adopted at a faster rate than last year’s release, one of the reasons for this is because the new OS brings a wide range of speed and performance improvements to Apple devices, particularly older devices. Users have reported that their older iPhones and iPads feel significantly faster and more responsive after updating to iOS 12. This is a crucial factor for many users who may have been hesitant to update in the past due to concerns about slowing down their devices.
Another reason for the rapid adoption is the introduction of new features that enhance user experience. For instance, iOS 12 includes Screen Time, which helps users monitor and manage their device usage. This feature has been particularly popular among parents who want to control their children’s screen time. Additionally, the improved notifications system, which groups notifications by app and allows for more granular control, has been well-received by users.
Compatibility and Support
iOS 12 is compatible with a wide range of Apple devices, including models as old as the iPhone 5s and the iPad Air. This broad compatibility has encouraged more users to update, knowing that their older devices will still be supported. Apple has also made it easier to update to the latest OS by providing over-the-air updates that can be downloaded and installed directly from the device, without the need for a computer.
Moreover, Apple has been proactive in addressing any bugs or issues that arise with new updates. Regular patches and updates ensure that any problems are quickly resolved, maintaining user trust and satisfaction. This level of support is a significant factor in the high adoption rate of iOS 12.
The adoption rate of iOS 12 also reflects Apple’s strong ecosystem and the loyalty of its user base. Many users prefer to stay within the Apple ecosystem due to the seamless integration between devices, such as the ability to start a task on an iPhone and finish it on a Mac or iPad. This integration encourages users to keep their devices updated to the latest software to take full advantage of these features.
The rapid adoption of iOS 12 can be attributed to its performance improvements, new features, broad compatibility, and strong support from Apple. These factors have combined to create a compelling reason for users to update their devices, resulting in a high adoption rate.
