Yesterday we heard that references to the new Apple Watch and a new iPhone companion application were discovered in iOS 8.2 Beta 4, and now we have some more information on the companion app.
The Marc Gurman from 9 to 5 Mac have had a look at the new Apple Watch companion app, the application is designed to manage settings for applications on Apple’s new smartwatch.
Features of the Apple Watch Companion App
You will be able to use the companion app on your iPhone to manage applications on your Apple Watch, and you will also be able to select the layout of the app icons on your watch from your iPhone. This feature is particularly useful as it allows users to customize their smartwatch experience to better suit their needs and preferences. For instance, if you frequently use certain apps, you can position them for easy access.
This would make sense that Apple would allow you to manage the settings for their smartwatch on your iPhone, as it would be easier to organize the applications on a larger display. The companion app is expected to offer a range of customization options, including the ability to change watch faces, adjust notification settings, and even control the haptic feedback intensity.
Expected Launch and Additional Features
Apple’s new smartwatch is expected to launch in March. Apple has yet to give us an official release date for their new watch, although the device is expected to launch sometime between the 20th and the end of March. This launch window aligns with Apple’s historical release patterns, often choosing the spring season to introduce new products.
In addition to the companion app, the Apple Watch is rumored to include several health and fitness tracking features. These may include heart rate monitoring, step counting, and even advanced metrics like VO2 max and ECG readings. The integration with the Health app on the iPhone will allow users to keep a comprehensive record of their health data, making it easier to track progress and set fitness goals.
Moreover, the Apple Watch is expected to support a variety of third-party apps, expanding its functionality beyond what is available out of the box. Developers are already working on applications that will leverage the watch’s unique capabilities, such as its always-on display and advanced sensors.
Another exciting feature is the potential for Apple Pay integration, allowing users to make contactless payments directly from their wrist. This could be a game-changer for those who prefer to travel light and leave their wallets at home.
