We were expecting Apple to send out invites to their iPad Mini launch event this week, unfortunately that did not happen, and now according to AllThingsD, Apple will launch their new iPad Mini on October the 23rd.
Apple normally holds its iPad and iPhone events on a Wednesday, although according to AllThingsD the event will now be held on Tuesday the 23rd of October, which is just a couple of days before Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Surface tablet launch date.
The iPad Mini is rumored to feature a smaller 7.85 inch display which is rumored to feature a 16:9 aspect ratio, the device is also rumored to feature Apple’s new Lightning dock connector.
Anticipated Features of the iPad Mini
The iPad Mini is expected to be a significant addition to Apple’s lineup, catering to users who prefer a more compact device. The 7.85-inch display is a notable shift from the traditional 9.7-inch screen of the standard iPad, making it more portable and easier to handle with one hand. The 16:9 aspect ratio is also a departure from the 4:3 aspect ratio seen in previous iPads, which could make the iPad Mini more suitable for watching widescreen videos and movies.
Another key feature is the inclusion of the new Lightning dock connector, which Apple introduced with the iPhone 5. This smaller, reversible connector is designed to replace the older 30-pin dock connector, offering faster data transfer and a more durable design. This change, however, means that users with older accessories may need to purchase adapters to use them with the new iPad Mini.
Market Competition and Strategic Timing
The timing of the iPad Mini launch is particularly strategic, as it comes just days before the release of Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Surface tablet. By launching the iPad Mini on October 23rd, Apple aims to capture consumer attention and potentially sway buyers who might be considering Microsoft’s new offerings. The Surface tablet, with its innovative design and integration with Windows 8, is seen as a direct competitor to the iPad, and Apple’s move to introduce a smaller, more affordable iPad could be a way to maintain its dominance in the tablet market.
If the event is being held on Tuesday the 23rd of October, then we can expect Apple to start sending invites out to the event sometime next week. As soon as we get some more information, we will let you guys know.
