Apple has been working on its self driving car technology for some time. the company originally started out to develop an actual car and then switched to creating the self driving software.
Last year we heard that Apple was leasing vehicles from Hertz for its project and now it looks like Apple has doubled its fleet of cars.
According to a recent report, Apple has doubled its fleet of self driving cars since January this year, the company apparently now has 45 cars in its fleet.
The company previously has permits for 27 vehicles in California and this has now been increased to 45. They started out with a fleet of just three vehicles in April of last year. These additional cars make Apple’s fleet of cars the second largest in California.
Apple is just one of many companies that are testing out self driving car technologies, as well as technology companies many of the top car makers are also testing out this technology on their vehicles.
The technology is already starting to filter down into every day vehicles with many cars now coming with some autonomous features. It is expected to be a few years yet before fully self driving vehicles are available to buy.
