Yesterday we heard that developers received the third beta of macOS High Sierra and now Apple has released a new beta version of the software to its public beta testing program.
Apple has released macOS High Sierra Beta 2 to its public beta testing program, this comes just a couple of weeks after the release of the first beta to public testers.
New Features in macOS High Sierra
Apple’s macOS High Sierra was unveiled at their Worldwide Developer Conference last month and it brings a wide range of new features to their Mac range of computers. One of the most significant updates is the new Apple File System (APFS), which is designed to make common operations such as copying files and directories nearly instantaneous. APFS also brings improved security and reliability, with built-in encryption, crash protection, and simplified data backup.
Another major feature is the enhanced graphics capabilities with Metal 2, Apple’s advanced graphics technology. Metal 2 offers better performance and efficiency, enabling developers to create more immersive and visually rich applications and games. It also supports machine learning, external GPUs, and VR content creation, making it a versatile tool for developers.
The Photos app has also received a significant overhaul in macOS High Sierra. It now includes new editing tools, improved organization features, and better integration with third-party apps. Users can now edit Live Photos, add new effects, and use advanced editing tools like Curves and Selective Color to fine-tune their images.
Safari and Mail Improvements
Safari, Apple’s web browser, has also seen some notable improvements. One of the standout features is the new Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which uses machine learning to identify and block trackers that collect user data. This helps to protect user privacy and reduce the amount of targeted advertising. Safari also includes auto-play blocking, which prevents videos from automatically playing when you visit a website, providing a smoother and less intrusive browsing experience.
The Mail app in macOS High Sierra has been optimized to use less storage space, with Apple claiming that it now uses up to 35% less space for storing emails. Additionally, the new Top Hits feature in Mail makes it easier to find the most relevant emails when performing a search.
As yet we do not have an official release date for High Sierra, the software is expected to land some time this fall, probably in either September or October.
If you want to test out the macOS High Sierra beta 2 you will need to sign up to Apple’s public beta testing program, you can find out more details about this here.
