Apple [AAPL] has launched the latest version of iTunes, iTunes 10, and as well as getting a new logo, iTunes has a range of new features. One of the new features on iTunes 10 is called Ping.
Steve Jobs yesterday described Ping as a social network for music, and what it does is let you use iTunes as a social network. You can choose to let anyone follow you or set it up so just your friends can follow you.
Ping lets you share you favourite music with your friends and followers, when you purchase a new song, your friends of followers will know about it, they can then preview the song, they can also buy it and Ping can also be used for messages, sharing videos and lots more.
There are a range of other new features in iTunes 10 which includes the new iTunes TV show rentals, although this feature is only available in the US, there are no details on when this will be available in the UK.
AirPlay is another new feature in iTunes 10, it lets you stream your music throughout your house, the technology will be integrated into wireless speaker docks, AV receivers and stereo systems, and you will also be able to stream from devices like the iPad and iPhone.
Apple have also improved the syncing feature in iTunes 10, there is a new capacity bar that tells you how much space you have left on your device in real time.
iTunes 10 is available as a free download from Apple.
