Apple has launched a new application called Apple Configurator, which is designed to let organizations like schools and businesses manage multiple iOS devices at once.
The Apple Configurator will let you manage up to thirty different devices at once, including iPads, iPhones, and the iPod Touch, and all devices can be updated to the same version of iOS at once.
Streamlined Device Management for Organizations
Apple Configurator can be used by larger organizations and businesses to set up new devices, install enterprise apps, and enroll each device with a Mobile Device Management solution for remote management by an IT administrator. It is perfect for the classroom or student lab where devices need to be quickly refreshed and kept up to date with the correct settings, approved policies, apps, and data. Apple Configurator can also be used to personalize devices with data and documents for specific users.
One of the standout features of Apple Configurator is its ability to streamline the setup process for new devices. For instance, in a school setting, IT administrators can quickly prepare a batch of iPads for a new semester. This includes installing necessary educational apps, setting up Wi-Fi configurations, and applying security policies to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Similarly, businesses can use Apple Configurator to deploy iPhones to new employees, preloaded with essential apps and company-specific settings.
Enhanced Customization and Security
You can also install apps across all the devices at the same time and configure the devices’ settings as well as install the same data over all thirty devices. This bulk configuration capability is particularly useful for maintaining consistency across all devices, ensuring that every user has access to the same tools and resources.
Moreover, Apple Configurator supports the installation of enterprise apps, which are custom applications developed for specific organizational needs. This feature is invaluable for businesses that rely on proprietary software for their operations. By using Apple Configurator, these apps can be seamlessly installed on multiple devices, saving time and reducing the risk of errors.
Security is another critical aspect addressed by Apple Configurator. Organizations can enforce security policies such as password requirements, encryption, and remote wipe capabilities. This ensures that sensitive data remains protected, even if a device is lost or stolen. Additionally, Apple Configurator can be used to enroll devices in a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution, providing IT administrators with the ability to monitor and manage devices remotely.
Apple Configurator also offers the flexibility to personalize devices for individual users. For example, in a corporate environment, different departments may require different sets of apps and configurations. Apple Configurator allows IT administrators to create specific profiles for each department, ensuring that employees have the tools they need to perform their tasks efficiently.
In educational settings, teachers can use Apple Configurator to tailor devices to the needs of their students. This could include installing specific educational apps, setting up accessibility features for students with special needs, and ensuring that all devices are compliant with school policies.
