The Apple iPhone 6 is expected to come with NFC, this is a rumor we have heard in the past about previous versions of Apple’s iPhone, although according to various reports, the new iphone will finally get NFC.
NFC will apparently be a key technology for the new iPhone 6 and a new mobile payments system, and Apple has apparently signed a deal with NXP to supply the NFC chips for their next generation iPhone, the news comes from Morgan Stanley, and you can see a quote from them below.
NXP is well positioned to participate in Apple’s mobile payments ecosystem. The company signed a licensing agreement with a customer in Q4’13, who we believe is Apple, related to its emerging ID business. A recent patent filing by Apple revealed potential use of NFC and secure element, which we think could be embedded. NXP has also accelerated R&D spend to support a new program related to the IP deal, with revenue expected in 2H, lining up well with the launch of iPhone 6. We see this potentially adding $250mn in sales and EPS of $0.25 in 2015.
The iPhone 6 is rumored to come in two different versions, both will feature larger displays and a completely new design over the existing iPhone 5S, and we are expecting the 4.7 inch version of the new iPhone to launch first, this will then be followed by a 5.5 inch model of the handset later in the year.
The new Apple iPhone is expected to be the first device to use the new Apple A8 mobile processor, this will be Apple’s second generation 64-bit processor, and the handset will also feature more RAM and updated graphics over the iPhone 5S. As well as a larger display on both models of the handset, we can also expect a higher resolution display, and there are rumors that the iPhone 6 will come with a resolution of 1704 by 960 pixels.
Apple have also been working on a new camera for the next generation iPhone, this is rumored to be a new 8 megapixel camera that will come with a range of advanced features. One of the new features on the camera is EIS or Electronic Image Stabilization, this allows for a smaller camera module for the handset, as we have already seen in the various leaked renders, Apple have chosen a slimmer design for the iPhone 6.
Apple are expected to launch the 4.7 inch version of the new iPhone in September, we are also expecting to see the new Apple iWatch at the same time, and the handset will come with Apple iOS 8 and a range of health an fitness monitoring features.
