The Apple Car project has apparently been given the go ahead by Apple, the project is apparently designated internally at Apple as a ‘committed project’ and the company plans to launch their first vehicle in 2019.
The electric car that Apple is working on is being developed under Project Titan, there are currently a team of 600 working on the car and now Apple plans to increase the development team to 1,800.
Apple has apparently spent more than a year investigating whether developing an electric car would be feasible for the company and has now decided to go ahead with the project.
It would appear that Apple has slightly different plans for the Apple Car than Google does with their autonomous cars, Apple is not making a fully autonomous car, which would suggest that the company is looking to make a car that would appeal to everyone.
This is something that Apple plans to do in the future, although this is part of their long term plans, so we could see a fully autonomous car in the Apple Car 2 or 3.
Apple has been hiring former employees from electric car company Tesla and has also had some high profile hires from within the auto industry, the most recent one was Chrysler’s Doug Betts.
It will be interesting to see what Apple comes up with for their new electric vehicle, the company plans to use it expertise from its existing devices to develop its electric vehicle, with things like batteries, sensor and more.
We are looking forward to seeing what Apple comes up with and whether the company can transfer its design expertise from the electronics industry top the automotive industry.
