Apple has been engaged in a number of lawsuits with various Android manufacturers over the last year or so, one of thos manufacturers is HTC and now it would appear that the two companies have come to an agreement.
Both Apple and HTC have released a joint statement, which announces the end of their various legal battles, and the deal will see HTC liscense Apple patents for any devices the produce with Google’s Android OS over the next 10 years.
TAIPEI, Taiwan and CUPERTINO, California—November 10, 2012—HTC and Apple® have reached a global settlement that includes the dismissal of all current lawsuits and a ten-year license agreement. The license extends to current and future patents held by both parties. The terms of the settlement are confidential.
“HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
“We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. “We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation.”
This could possibly have some impact on various other legal cases Apple has against other Android manufacturers, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we see others sign up to a similar deal with Apple.
