It looks like the world’s most popular mobile game, Angry Birds, is about to land on the PC in retail stores, according to a recent report. Angry Birds for the PC will land in retail stores in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand within the next few weeks.
The news comes from the guys over at MCV, who have spoken to Rovio Mobile, and have been told that a PC version of Angry Birds will be available in the UK in retail stores from the 25th of November for around £10.
Angry Birds is already available for the Mac through the Mac App Store as a digital download and also available to download for the PC. Rovio has said that other versions of the game will also be headed to the PC in retail stores before Christmas, which includes Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio.
The Phenomenon of Angry Birds
Angry Birds has become a global phenomenon since its initial release in December 2009. Developed by Rovio Entertainment, the game quickly captured the hearts of millions with its simple yet addictive gameplay. Players use a slingshot to launch birds at structures populated by green pigs, with the goal of destroying all the pigs on the playing field. The game’s success can be attributed to its intuitive controls, charming graphics, and the satisfying challenge it presents.
The game has expanded far beyond its original mobile platform, spawning numerous sequels, spin-offs, and even a feature film. Angry Birds Seasons introduced themed levels based on various holidays and events, while Angry Birds Rio tied in with the animated movie “Rio,” featuring new birds and levels inspired by the film.
Expanding to New Platforms
The move to bring Angry Birds to PC retail stores marks another significant step in the game’s expansion. By making the game available in physical form, Rovio is tapping into a new market segment that prefers traditional retail purchases over digital downloads. This strategy could attract a broader audience, including those who may not have access to or prefer not to use digital distribution platforms.
Moreover, the retail version of Angry Birds for PC is expected to include additional content and features that may not be available in the digital versions. This could include exclusive levels, enhanced graphics, and possibly even bonus merchandise, making it an attractive purchase for both new players and long-time fans of the series.
The inclusion of Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio in the retail lineup further enriches the offering. Angry Birds Seasons provides a continuous stream of new content with its holiday-themed levels, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging. Angry Birds Rio, on the other hand, offers a unique twist on the original game mechanics, incorporating elements from the “Rio” movie and introducing new bird characters with special abilities.
