Google has scheduled an event on September 29th where the company is expected to take the wraps off the new Nexus devices as well as their upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.
The new operating system should reach the existing Nexus devices in the coming weeks, and if the schedule from the Canadian carrier Telus is to be believed, the new operating system should start rolling out from October 5th, at least for users tied to the carrier.
Expected Rollout and Device Compatibility
The schedule posted by the carrier lists Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 to be the first devices which will get the new operating system in the first week of October. However, the carrier did mention that the date is not final, and is subject to change if things don’t go as planned. This rollout is highly anticipated as it promises to bring a host of new features and improvements to the existing Nexus lineup.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to bring several enhancements over its predecessor, Android Lollipop. These include improved battery life through a feature called Doze, which reduces background activity when the device is not in use. Additionally, the new operating system will introduce more granular app permissions, allowing users to have better control over what information apps can access.
New Nexus Devices: Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P
As for the new devices, Google is expected to release two new Nexus devices, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, which will be the first devices to ship with the new operating system. The Nexus 5X, manufactured by LG, is rumored to feature a 5.2-inch display, a Snapdragon 808 processor, and a 12.3 MP rear camera. On the other hand, the Nexus 6P, made by Huawei, is expected to come with a 5.7-inch display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, and a 12.3 MP rear camera as well.
Both devices are anticipated to include fingerprint sensors, USB Type-C ports, and improved camera capabilities, making them competitive options in the current smartphone market. The inclusion of Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box will also ensure that users get the latest software experience right from the start.
Additional Features and Improvements
One of the standout features of Android 6.0 Marshmallow is Google Now on Tap, which provides contextual information based on the content currently displayed on the screen. For example, if you’re reading an email about a movie, you can long-press the home button to get information about the movie, including reviews, showtimes, and more, without leaving the email app.
Another significant improvement is the enhanced security features. Android 6.0 Marshmallow introduces native support for fingerprint authentication, which can be used not only to unlock the device but also to authorize purchases and sign into apps. This adds an extra layer of security and convenience for users.
Moreover, the new operating system includes support for Android Pay, Google’s mobile payment system, which aims to simplify the process of making payments using your smartphone. With Android Pay, users can store their credit and debit card information securely and use their device to make payments at compatible terminals.
We’ll update you as soon as we get any other details about the roll out of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Nexus as well as other Android devices. The upcoming event on September 29th is expected to provide more insights and official announcements regarding the new operating system and devices.
