Google has announced the next version of their mobile OS, Android 4.4 KitKat, which takes its name from the Nestle KitKat Chocolate bar. We had previously thought that the next Android release would be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
Google has named its various Android releases after desserts since the first version was launched, but this is the first time that the company has named an Android release after a particular brand.
Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat.
Why KitKat?
The decision to name the new version of Android after the KitKat chocolate bar is intriguing and has sparked a lot of interest. This marks a significant departure from Google’s usual practice of using generic dessert names. The collaboration between Google and Nestle is a unique marketing strategy that benefits both companies. For Google, it adds a fun and recognizable element to their branding, while Nestle gets a boost in visibility and association with cutting-edge technology.
The choice of KitKat also reflects a broader trend in tech marketing where companies seek to create memorable and engaging brand experiences. By aligning Android with a beloved chocolate bar, Google taps into the emotional and sensory appeal of KitKat, making the new OS version more relatable and exciting for users.
What to Expect from Android 4.4 KitKat
While specific details about the features of Android 4.4 KitKat are still under wraps, there are several anticipated improvements and additions that users are eagerly awaiting. Historically, each new version of Android has brought enhancements in performance, user interface, and functionality.
One of the expected features is better optimization for lower-end devices. This means that even smartphones and tablets with less powerful hardware will be able to run Android 4.4 KitKat smoothly, making the OS more accessible to a broader range of users. This is particularly important in emerging markets where budget devices are more prevalent.
Another anticipated improvement is enhanced battery life. Google has been working on various power-saving technologies, and Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to incorporate these advancements to help users get more out of their devices without frequent charging.
Additionally, there are rumors of a more integrated Google Now experience. Google Now, the intelligent personal assistant, has been a standout feature in previous Android versions, and it is likely that Android 4.4 KitKat will bring even deeper integration, making it more intuitive and useful for everyday tasks.
There are no details as yet on exactly when Android 4.4 KitKat will be released, but the anticipation is building. As soon as we get some more information, we will let you guys know.
