Earlier today, HTC announced that the HTC Hero would be getting Android 2.1. Now, it looks like some other HTC devices will also be receiving upgrades, although these ones will get the latest version of Google Android, Android 2.2 (Froyo).
HTC has announced that the HTC Legend, HTC Desire, and the HTC Wildfire will be getting Android 2.2 (Froyo) sometime in Q3 2010.
What to Expect from Android 2.2 (Froyo)
Android 2.2, also known as Froyo, brings a host of new features and improvements over its predecessors. Users can look forward to enhanced performance, thanks to the Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler, which significantly boosts the speed of applications. Additionally, Froyo introduces support for Adobe Flash 10.1, allowing users to enjoy a richer web browsing experience with access to Flash-based content.
Another notable feature is the ability to use the phone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling other devices to connect to the internet through the phone’s data connection. This can be particularly useful for users who need internet access on the go but do not have a dedicated mobile hotspot device.
Impact on HTC Devices
The upgrade to Android 2.2 is expected to bring a significant performance boost to the HTC Legend, HTC Desire, and HTC Wildfire. These devices, which were already popular for their sleek designs and robust hardware, will benefit from the improved speed and functionality that Froyo offers. For instance, the HTC Desire, with its 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, will be able to leverage the JIT compiler to run applications more efficiently, providing a smoother user experience.
Moreover, the inclusion of Flash support will enhance the multimedia capabilities of these devices, making them more versatile for entertainment and productivity purposes. Users will be able to stream videos, play games, and interact with web applications that rely on Flash, all from their mobile devices.
There are no details as yet on when HTC will be releasing Android 2.2 for the above smartphones. It could be any time within the next couple of weeks to up to a couple of months. The anticipation is high, as users are eager to experience the new features and improvements that Froyo promises to deliver.
As soon as we get more information on when Android 2.2 will be available for the HTC Desire, Legend, and Wildfire, we will let you guys know. The update is expected to roll out over-the-air (OTA), making it easy for users to upgrade their devices without needing to connect to a computer.
In the meantime, users can prepare for the update by ensuring their devices are backed up and have sufficient battery life during the upgrade process. It’s also a good idea to familiarize oneself with the new features of Froyo to make the most out of the upgraded operating system once it becomes available.
