Amazon has announced that it will stop selling video streaming devices from Apple and Google that are not compatible with its own Amazon Video streaming service.
So basically Amazon will stop selling the Apple TV and also the Google Chromecast, the company sent out an email to its marketplace sellers saying that it will no longer sell these devices.
The Seattle-based Web retailer sent an e-mail to its marketplace sellers that it will stop selling the Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast since those devices don’t “interact well” with Prime Video. No new listings for the products will be allowed and posting of existing inventory will be removed Oct. 29, Amazon said. Prime Video doesn’t run easily on its rival’s hardware.
This is a somewhat surprising move from Amazon, the company has been selling these devices for some time and it hasn’t been an issue before.
Apple is about to launch a new Apple TV set top box, which will come with games and apps, this would have given amazon the possibility to get its Amazon Prime Video on the Apple TV, as it already has its apps available on the iPhone and iPad.
We wonder if Amazon has attempted to get its Amazon Prime Video approved by Apple for the new Apple TV, maybe Apple has turned the app down, could this have cause Amazon’s latest move? Of course this is just speculation.
