Following on from Samsung, MediaTek, Huawei and Qualcomm who have already entered the octa-core SoC market, Chinese manufacturer Allwinner has showcased their Allwinner UltraOcta A80 processor at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 event in Barcelona.
The Allwinner processor includes a full set of specifications includes an eight-core big.LITTLE HMP (GTS) CPU paired with a PowerVR G6230 GPU and Allwinner has equipped their Allwinner UltraOcta A80 processor with four ARM Cortex-A7 and four Cortex-A15 CPU cores.
The Allwinner UltraOcta A80 processor has been created to bring premium performance devices to consumers at lower price points, to be used in devices such as OTT media players, notebook PCs, all-in-ones, and even smart TVs. Mike Zhang, CEO, Allwinner Technology, explains in the press released published this week:
“For the past year, our worldwide customer base has grown significantly, enabling us to deliver high quality products at extremely affordable prices. OEMs from all tiers – top, middle, and low – recognize our leading market position and continue to choose our processors to deliver outstanding value to their customers.
Fundamentally, the UltraOcta A80 and its platforms give OEMs the highest performance, most power-efficient and cost-effective solution for a range of devices, including tablets, portable game consoles, STBs, media players and many others. We’re excited to see the first UltraOcta devices hit the market soon.”
Unfortunately no information on pricing or an exact released date has been announced as yet by Allwinner for the Allwinner UltraOcta A80 processor, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated.
