Adafruit has this week unveiled a new product to their range of electronics in the form of the Adafruit Audio FX Mini Sound Board which is now available to purchase priced at $14.95 and $19.95
The Adafruit Audio FX Mini Sound Board has been designed to enable makers, hobbyists and developers to easily add audio or sound effects to their next project, without the need for an Arduino Shield.
The Adafruit Audio FX Mini Sound Board is available with either 16MB of onboard Flash or 2MB depending on your needs, and both can be purchased here. Adafruit explains a little more :
“We designed this board specifically for people who wanted to make props, costumes, toys, and other small portable projects. The sound board is designed to be simple: it does not have polyphonic ability, can’t play MP3’s (MP3 is patented and costs $ to license, so this board uses the similar but not-patented OGG format, there’s tons of free converters that will turn an MP3 into OGG), isn’t reprogrammable or scriptable, and you can’t have any other kind of trigger type. However, there’s a good chance the project you want to make will work great.”
