After the acquisition of iGware by Acer this week for $320 million, the Taiwanese hardware vendor is now looking to develop its own Acer Cloud that would be used as a web-based service designed to pull their PCs, laptops, and tablet devices together.
Acer has explained that their new Acer Cloud will be built on an open platform with hardware and software design integration set to begin in late September 2011. The fully finished Acer Cloud is then expected to launch products during 2012.
Acer CEO and chairman JT Wang explains:
“The goal of Acer Cloud is to allow our users to enjoy and manage all their ICT devices, contents, and resources with ease, by integrating all Acer products including PCs, tablets, and smart handheld devices within a safe and secure environment”
Features and Benefits of Acer Cloud
Acer Cloud aims to provide a seamless experience for users by ensuring that all their devices can communicate and share data effortlessly. This cloud service will enable users to store their files, photos, and other important data in a centralized location, making it accessible from any Acer device. This means that whether you are using a desktop PC at home, a laptop at work, or a tablet on the go, you will have access to the same data without the need for manual transfers or synchronization.
One of the key features of Acer Cloud is its open platform design. This approach allows for greater flexibility and compatibility with various software and hardware configurations. By not locking users into a proprietary system, Acer ensures that its cloud service can evolve and adapt to new technologies and user needs over time.
Security and Privacy
Security is a major concern for any cloud service, and Acer Cloud is no exception. Acer has committed to creating a secure environment where users can store their data without fear of unauthorized access. This includes implementing robust encryption methods and regular security updates to protect against emerging threats. Additionally, Acer Cloud will offer user-friendly privacy settings, allowing individuals to control who has access to their data and how it is shared.
Acer’s acquisition of iGware is a strategic move to bolster its cloud computing capabilities. iGware’s expertise in cloud technology will be instrumental in developing a reliable and efficient Acer Cloud service. This acquisition not only enhances Acer’s product offerings but also positions the company as a competitive player in the rapidly growing cloud computing market.
