If you’re the creepy type excessively enamored with avatars (the online kind, not the blue tree people from Pandora), you might wanna check these guys out. The name’s Sculpteo and they are masters at buildings cutesy figurines of your alter ego.
The startup that opened its doors last month use newfangled 3D printers to build handy figurines of an avatar. So if you want a miniature idol as a testament to your gaming prowess or social networking mastery (is there such a thing?), or simply a gnomish fixture to brighten up a day at the cubicle farm, we think Sculpteo are right up your alley.
If you’re interested, go to the official site and waste no time uploading a pic of yourself. From this the Sculpteo team create an avatar and even give you the choice of clothes plus accessories. When everything’s done according to your specifications the 3D figurine is sculpted and tada! Neat-o!
Of course, life sized statues are off limits (that would be obscene and the height of vanity), but a cute 7 cm or 10 cm model is the choice imposed on customers. Considering the amount of craftmanship (or lack thereof) involved—c’mon, they’re using 3D printers—the smaller figuring will set you back $ 74.90 while the bigger variant costs a hefty $129.90.
