The new 2011 range of Apple’s MacBook Pro’s are now official, so we thought we would take a look at the full specifications of the new MacBook Pro’s to see how the compare to last years models.
There are quite a few changes from the previous versions of the MacBook Pro, with two separate 13 inch models available, two 15 inch models and one 17 inch model.
Lets look at the 13 inch 2011 MacBook Pro first, you get a choice of either a 2.3 GHz dual core i5 processor with 3MB L3 cache or a 2.7 GHz dual core i7 processor with 4MB of L3 cache.
Memory comes in as 4GB as standard but this can be expanded to 8GB, the display remains the same as last year with a 13.3 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.
This years models does away with the SD card slot and this is replaced with an SDXC card slot which means you can still use SD cards, but also use the higher capacity SDXC cards.
One of the major changes to the new MacBook Pro’s is the new Thunderbolt port which offers data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, this sound pretty impressive when you compare it to USB or Firewire speeds.
Pricing wise the 13 inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,199 and this comes with a 320GB hard drive for the core i5 model, if you go for the core i7 model this will set you back $1,499 this comes with a 500GB hard drive.
Next up is the 15 inch 2011 MacBook Pro, you get a choice of either a 2.0 GHz or 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 processor with 6MB of L3 cache or a 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB of L3 cache.
The 15 inch 2011 MacBook Pro comes with a 15.4 inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels, plus a choice of hard drives up to 750GB or solid state drives up to 512GB.
Graphics is provided by AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory on 2.0GHz MacBook or AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on 2.2GHz MacBook.
Price wise, the 15 inch 2011 MacBook Pro starts at $1,799 and the top end model will retail for 2,199.
Finally we have the 17 inch 2011 MacBook Pro which comes with a 2.2GHz quad core Intel Core i7 processor as standard and the option to upgrade to a 2.3GHz wuad core Intel Core i7 processor.
The 17 inch MacBook Pro features a 17 inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, and it comes with 4GB of RAM a standard, pricing on the 17 inch model starts at £2,499, you can see full details over at the Apple website.
