Inductive charging on smartphones is nothing new, and whilst not widespread yet, there have been a number of devices released which feature cable free charging.
It would appear that Apple has plans to use some sort of inductive charging in future versions of the iPhone, as they have just been granted a patent for an inductive charging dock, have a look at the photo below.
We doubt that Apple’s iPhone 5 will come with inductive charging, as we will have to wait for a while to see if Apple decide to use this in future versions of the iPhone, you can see more details on the patent they were granted over at Patently Apple.
