PC gamers that would rather not shell out £279 on a new Nintendo Switch console but are eager to be able to play the new Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, may be interested in this new footage which has been recorded on a PC.
The latest Zelda game has been already working on PC systems thanks to the CEMU emulator which has been under development since 2015 and has been designed to run Wii U games on PC, with varying success depending on the title.
The Development of CEMU Emulator
The CEMU emulator has been a significant project in the gaming community, especially for those who prefer PC gaming. Developed by Exzap and Petergov, the emulator has seen continuous improvements and updates since its inception. Initially, the emulator struggled with performance issues and compatibility problems with various Wii U titles. However, over time, the developers have managed to optimize the emulator to run many games smoothly, including popular titles like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.
The team is still working on the Zelda: Breath of the Wild PC functionality but as you can see in the video below it is already playable. The following video has been recorded on a i7-4790K PC running a GTX 780 and 8GB RAM. Enjoy!
CEMU is funded through Patreon. The team is supported by some 1857 people at the time of writing, who collectively donate $7782 per month (around £6300).
Challenges and Achievements
Running Zelda: Breath of the Wild on a PC is no small feat. The game is known for its expansive open world, intricate physics, and detailed graphics, all of which require significant computational power. The CEMU team has had to overcome numerous challenges to make the game playable on PC. These include optimizing the game’s performance, fixing graphical glitches, and ensuring that the game’s physics engine works correctly.
One of the most impressive aspects of this project is the community support. The CEMU emulator is funded through Patreon, and at the time of writing, the team is supported by 1857 patrons who collectively donate $7782 per month (around £6300). This financial support has been crucial in allowing the developers to dedicate their time and resources to improving the emulator.
Moreover, the community has also contributed by providing feedback, reporting bugs, and even creating mods to enhance the gaming experience. For instance, some mods improve the game’s graphics, while others add new features or fix existing issues. This collaborative effort has made it possible for PC gamers to enjoy a game that was initially exclusive to Nintendo consoles.
