Every smartphone we buy comes bundled with a charger in the box. However, it seems Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun says the upcoming smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer may not come with a charger inside.
Many may attribute this decision, if it happens, as an attempt to reduce costs but that’s not the reason. It’s mainly due to environmental concerns — which may sound unlikely to be honest.
Majority of smartphones these days comes bundled with a micro USB chargers. Every time we buy a new handset, the old chargers usually end up in a cupboard or a drawer. Dumping them isn’t the right way, and this means that you’ll have a handful chargers at your disposal to charge your handset.
Recent chipsets in many smartphones offer quick charging capabilities, which do require a specific charger to make use of the feature. Xiaomi also sells the Mi charger for almost $1.7 which users can purchase.
The reason may look reasonable as to reduce the environmental impact and waste of resources by manufacturing so many chargers. But, is it really the reason why Xiaomi wants to ditch bundling the charger?
