Popular messaging app WhatsApp has been blocked in Brazil for 48 hours, the app is been blocked due to a recent court ruling.
A court in Brazil has ordered local phone companies to block the application for 48 hours for failure to comply with a court order in a criminal case back in July.
WhatsApp issued the following statement on their Facebook page about the app being blocked for the next 48 hours.
“We are disappointed in the short-sighted decision to cut off access to WhatsApp, a communication tool that so many Brazilians have come to depend on, and sad to see Brazil isolate itself from the rest of the world,” said Jan Koum, the company’s CEO.
The reason for the shut down is because the court has said that WhatsApp did not comply with a judicial order that was issued on the 23 of July, it was then notified about the order on the 7th of August.
The company has yet to release any details about why they have apparently not replied to the court relating to the court order. It is not clear as yet on whether the court will take any further action against them.
