VW has been making convertibles for years back to the early days of the original VW Beetle. The company has stepped into a segment that demand really isn’t there for right now, and it certainly hopes to create that demand. The VW T-Roc Cabriolet is a drop-top crossover that will let those wanting an SUV get some wind in their hair.
The T-Roc Cabrio went into production in Osnabrück, Germany. It can open or close the top in only nine seconds as long as the car is going 18.6 mph or slower. For now, it is the only drop-top in the line.
VW admits the demand for convertibles is falling but hopes that the SUV ride height with a retractable soft top will woo buyers. Jeep certainly has hit the mark with the Wrangler. The car will have a variety of engine options, but no 300hp engine from the T-Roc R will be offered.
