After an extremely long wait Android users in the US might be interested to know that they can now download the VLC for Android media player directly from the Google Play store.
The VLC for Android application is still wearing its beta label but can be loaded onto any Android devices that are powered by a ARMv7 and x86 processors.
The VLC media application is capable of supporting most audio and video file formats as well as media streamed over the internet, offering extended functionality when compared to the standard media players that can supply it with the Android operating system.
It has been two years since the beta release of the VLC app launched and many new beta apps are geographically restricted for testing purposes, but normally not as long.
“VLC media player is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player that plays most multimedia files as well as discs, devices, and network streaming protocols. This is a BETA version of the port of VLC media player to the Android™ platform. It plays both audio and video.
It is intended for everyone, but this version is not perfectly stable. It is still a beta, so it might kill your kitten or destroy your house, but it should be mostly fine now.”
