If you are looking for the ultimate RV then this custom built KiraVan extreme motorhome built by a Dad for his daughter might be the perfect thing, if you have deep enough pockets.
The awesome and very rugged RV has been built by Bran Ferren, co-founder and chief creative officer of technology firm Applied Minds.
The RV has been specifically built for him and his daughter to do a little globe-trotting and provides the perfect expedition vehicle for the family to enjoy the remote sights of the world. The Wired website explains :
“Today Ferren is focused on his most important client: his 4-year-old daughter, Kira, who is just a few yards away, traipsing across the garden with a pal. Several years ago, when Ferren was still in his midfifties—a time when many men are easing into their grandfather phase—his partner of more than 25 years, Robyn Low, told him that if he ever wanted to have a kid, the time was now. Finally having a child became a priority, and in 2009 Kira was born.
To answer the hundreds of questions nagging at him in his quest to build a supertruck, Ferren traveled all over the globe to seek the advice of experts. He spoke with mining consultants to learn how their equipment survives harsh conditions. He picked the brains of oil explorers to find out how their machinery functions over difficult terrain.”
Unfortunately Ferren won’t divulge the exact budget of the rugged RV, but says that the total cost is in the millions. But what do you expect for a highly specified vehicle of this nature with Kevlar-reinforced 46-inch tires, and over a dozen interlocking communication systems.
The KiraVan is also based on a Unimog chassis, but with three axles and part-time six-wheel drive, it resembles a high-tech tractor trailer.
