We are not expecting to see the new Samsung Galaxy S9 until next year, although now we have some details about Samsung’s next flagship.
According to a recent report, there will be two versions of the new Galaxy S9, which really does not come as a surprise as there are two versions of the Galaxy S8.
The guys over at Sammobile have discovered two model numbers for the handset: G960FXXU0AQI5 and G965FXXU0AQI5. The SM-G960 model number will apparently be for the new Galaxy S9 and the SM-G965 for the Galaxy S9 Plus handset.
Whilst the development of the firmware for the new Samsung Galaxy S9 has already started, the new handsets are not expected to be released until next year.
Expected Features and Upgrades
A previous rumor suggested that the new Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones will feature similar displays to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. This means we can expect the stunning Infinity Display to make a return, possibly with some enhancements in terms of brightness and color accuracy.
We can expect the handsets to get a number of upgrades, including new processors, more RAM, and new cameras. The Galaxy S9 is rumored to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor in the US and the Exynos 9810 in other markets. This would provide a significant boost in performance and efficiency compared to the Galaxy S8.
Camera Innovations
One of the most anticipated upgrades is in the camera department. Samsung has been known for its excellent camera technology, and the Galaxy S9 is expected to take this a step further. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S9 could feature a dual-camera setup similar to the Galaxy Note 8, but with improved sensors and software enhancements for better low-light performance and faster autofocus.
Additionally, there are speculations about the inclusion of a variable aperture feature, which would allow the camera to adjust its aperture size depending on the lighting conditions, providing better photo quality in various environments.
Design and Build
In terms of design, the Galaxy S9 is expected to retain the sleek and modern look of its predecessor, with some refinements. There are talks about a repositioned fingerprint sensor, which was a point of contention for many Galaxy S8 users due to its awkward placement next to the camera lens. The new placement is expected to be more ergonomic and user-friendly.
Moreover, Samsung might introduce new color options and materials to give the Galaxy S9 a fresh and premium feel. Water and dust resistance are likely to be maintained, ensuring the device’s durability.
Software and Features
On the software front, the Galaxy S9 will likely ship with the latest version of Android, possibly Android 8.0 Oreo, with Samsung’s custom skin on top. This would bring new features such as improved notifications, picture-in-picture mode, and better battery optimization.
Samsung’s own software enhancements, such as Bixby, Samsung Pay, and DeX, are expected to receive updates and new functionalities. Bixby, Samsung’s AI assistant, might see improvements in voice recognition and integration with more third-party apps.
As soon as we get some details about the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus, including some specifications on the handsets, we will let you guys know.
