This week Twitter has rolled out a couple of new features to its users that will provide access to realtime activity streams. Enabling Twitter users to be able to view the tweets which are popular within their circle of friends and also see when someone has favorited or retweeted you. These new features are designed to enhance user engagement and make it easier to keep track of interactions on the platform.
The mentions tab within Twitter has now been replaced with two new streams “Activity” and “@username” (where “username” is replaced by your Twitter username). The @username activity stream shows which of your tweets have become favourites of other users, and which have been retweeted, together with tweets that @mention you and your new followers. This change aims to provide a more personalized experience, allowing users to quickly see how their tweets are being received and who is engaging with their content.
Enhanced Discovery with the “Activity” Stream
The second new stream named “Activity” provides a rich new source of discovery by highlighting the latest favourites, retweets, and follows from the people you follow on Twitter. This feature enables you to see when someone has retweeted a Tweet, or if they followed someone new, and allows you to find out what people you are following are interested in. This can be particularly useful for discovering new content and users that align with your interests, thereby expanding your Twitter network and enhancing your overall experience on the platform.
For instance, if a person you follow retweets a tweet from a user you haven’t encountered before, you might find new content that resonates with you. Similarly, seeing who your friends are following can introduce you to new influencers or thought leaders in your areas of interest. This stream essentially acts as a curated feed of activities from your network, making it easier to stay updated with the latest trends and interactions.
Convenience of In-App Notifications
The features are available as email notifications within Twitter but being able to see them within your account is very handy. This in-app integration means you don’t have to switch between your email and Twitter to stay updated on your interactions. Everything you need to know about your Twitter activity is now conveniently located within the platform itself.
Moreover, these updates can help users manage their online presence more effectively. For example, if you notice that a particular tweet is gaining traction, you might decide to engage more with the users who are retweeting or favoriting it. This can lead to more meaningful interactions and potentially increase your follower count.
