If you would like to provide your children with something a little more interactive than the standard building blocks currently available, you might be interested in a new next-generation building block called TinkerBots.
TinkerBots consists of a robotic building set that can easily be snapped together to create a wealth of imaginative creations, that are controlled by an Arduino compatible microcontroller.
TinkerBots sets start at $159 and rise to $499 and include a red cube which is the systems processor or brains and contains the Arduino compatible microcontroller. The TinkerBots system is also supplied with a variety of different kinetic modules such as the twister, the pivot and the motor module.
Watch the video below to learn more about this new generation of building blocks that have been designed for children young and old to provide an outlet for their creativity and learn about robotics in the process. The creators of TinkerBots explain :
“All of TinkerBots pieces can be connected easily without the need for wiring or programming. It’s truly simple and easy to use. Even a five year old can use TinkerBots to build any robot he or she can imagine.
The integrated record-and-play mode lets you teach your robot what to do and to bring it to life. Just take the robot in your hands, press record, move it in the way you want it to move, and when you hit the play button, your robot will repeat exactly what you just taught it. You can also use the TinkerBots app on your tablet or smartphone as a remote control.”
The TinkerBots project is currently over on the Indiegogo crowd funding website looking to raise enough pledges to make the jump from concept to production.
